Welcome to The Cyber Jurist!

Dear Readers,

I’m so excited to officially launch The Cyber Jurist, a project that’s deeply personal to me. As a first-generation student and immigrant, this blog is a reflection of the journey that brought me here—a journey shaped by my parents’ sacrifices and their unwavering belief in the power of education.

My parents left their lives behind in South Korea to build a better future for our family, and their hard work instilled in me a deep respect for learning and opportunity. Thanks to their sacrifices, I was able to access incredible resources through my education at Penn. There, I dove headfirst into every resource I could find. Perry World House sparked my passion for international relations, the Lauder Institute fueled my curiosity about global policy, and Penn Carey Law’s programs gave me a glimpse into the world of law that I’ve dreamed of stepping into.

But it wasn’t always easy. Navigating the pre-law world—especially in such a niche area as tech and cyber policy—came with its fair share of challenges. There were times I felt unsure about how to connect my interests, where to start, or even if I belonged in those spaces. That’s part of why I created The Cyber Jurist. I want this platform to be a resource and community for others like me—whether you’re passionate about tech policy or just exploring what a legal career might look like.

This is just the beginning, and I’m thrilled to share this journey with you. Whether you're a student, professional, or simply curious about the evolving role of law in technology, there’s something here for everyone. I plan to feature insights from global discussions, case studies, and interviews with experts to provide a well-rounded perspective on these pressing issues.

Tech policy is one part of the larger world that impacts everyone, whether you realize it or not. But more than anything, I want The Cyber Jurist to be a place for pre-law students to connect, learn, and feel supported. I’ll be sharing tips for applying to law school, navigating legal pathways, and tackling the unique challenges that come with being a first-gen student or someone blazing a new trail. We’re all in this together, and I’m here to help however I can. Please feel free to reach out, share your stories, or ask questions. This space is for you—and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.

엄마 아빠, I dedicate this platform to you.

With gratitude and excitement,
Stephanie Hwang
